Back in April NHS Helpforce approached the British Acupuncture Council (BAcC) about the possibility of treating NHS staff to help them to cope with the intense workload and pressure they were experiencing due to the Covid-19 pandemic. In response, the project Acupuncture for NHS was created.
The project called for fully qualified acupuncture practitioners from all over the country to provide acupuncture treatment to NHS staff at a significantly reduced rate. The group have developed first class Covid-secure safe practice procedures and have also integrated a research project to run alongside the program to ensure that the care provided is supported by evidence-based practice.
The very first clinic was setup in Brighton & Hove where the response has been extraordinary. Over 100 NHS staff have come for treatment so far and have initially recorded largely positive results via our clinical outcomes tracking software. Following the success of the Brighton & Hove clinic, many acupuncturists have joined the project Acupuncture for NHS with the latest being here in South Oxfordshire.
We are very pleased to announce that Nick Lowe, Fabiana Dalla Vecchia and Desmond Le Roy are offering low cost treatment to NHS staff from their respective clinics in South Oxford, Didcot and Wallingford. All three have qualified to degree level, are full members of the BAcC and are licenced with the local authorities.
Acupuncture has been shown to be effective for a variety of conditions such as chronic pain and migraines. Initial research shows that acupuncture has the potential to be effective for a wide range of other health complaints such as anxiety, IBS and immune/respiratory issues. The Scope of Acupuncture Report published by the British Acupuncture Council in 2020 focused on the excellent safety record of acupuncture, the evidence for effectiveness for specific conditions and the evidence for cost-effectiveness.
e would therefore be grateful if you could provide all your NHS colleagues with details of this new service which we believe may be of significant benefit to NHS staff. The attached leaflet provides the contact details for Nick, Fabiana and Des and should you need any further information or simply wish to make a booking then please contact them on the telephone numbers/e-mails detailed on the leaflet.
